The British Library Start-up Day

We all know how tough it can be when you have a fantastic idea for a business, but feel a little stuck on where to go next. Sometimes how you should progress can be unclear, and there’s almost too much information out there for you to possibly digest! Advice from the people who have gone before you, made a success of their very own start-up and know the difficulties you face first-hand would certainly be helpful, wouldn’t it?

The event.

The British Library is hosting a day of workshops, talks and events to give you the know-how to turn your great ideas into a business and, what’s more, it’s completely free. All you have to do is register for the individual workshops that appeal to you and you instantly have a tailor-made day of engaging and exciting talks. Each one is guaranteed to be informative and inspiring and provide you with the tips and tricks you need to take the next steps in developing your start-up. This annual event is perfect for any budding entrepreneur, or indeed anyone looking to take their business or business idea to the next level.

Hear from people who have already tried and tested solutions to common start-up problems such as how to raise finance, how to stand out from the crowd and how to get your business online with minimal stress. All of the speakers are experienced entrepreneurs who have been in your shoes and know what it takes to make a new business a success. They also recognise the challenges faced by start-ups and have practical advice on how to overcome them.

The topics.

Here are just a couple of examples of the topics and subjects the speakers will be covering and discussing to whet your appetite: Lord Bilimoria will share the story of how he turned his start-up, Cobra beer, into a £60 million business and Sam Lane, founder of Sam Lane Photography shares his top tips for smartphone photography. There’s also workshops with well-established companies such as Virgin and Google to teach you how to understand your customers better and how to apply for a Virgin StartUp loan, which would certainly put you ahead of the competition.

With a selection of 20 workshops to choose from there’s certainly something for everyone. From writing that all important business plan to how to make sure you are charging the right prices. There’s even a focus on social media strategy and networking skills. Come armed with a pad and pen as you are sure to want to take plenty of notes during each event. You’ll also be networking with likeminded people in the world of start-ups and can ask all the questions you’re sure to have.

Free registration.

This even takes place on 21st September at British Library St Pancras from 10am to 7pm and is completely free. For all enquiries email bipcbookings@bl.uk. You can also visit the website of the event. Be sure to check the list of talks thoroughly to ensure you get the most from your day.
